Functional Design
My functional design piece is a taling statuette called "Groovy Time Ted" I wanted to incorporate the "funky fresh" retro side of the seventies to appeal to more adult audiences, and due to his adult content the intended audience is young adults to adults. He says four different catch phrases (he really does) all of which are in his groovy, sexy voice he uses to seduce the women. With catch phrases such as "Baby we gonna make hot tender love before we have sex" or "Honey, you can be my bear all night long" and "Sugar, Im gonna butter your bread" and everyones favorite "Let's get to groovin! With that peace sign belt and those paisley pants, who wouldn't be easily swooned over by this character? I used a neutral purple/pink color to relate to both genders so everyone can enjoy the witty phrases that Groovy Time Ted says. He's loquacious, he's cool, he's groovy.
Play- the involvement of physical activity that serves to have fun
Visual texture- the use of pattern to draw attention to a certain area
Color- The use of pigment to appeal to more of the senses
Textural animation- How texture brings a character to life
Characteristic Textures- Textures that define the personality of something
Contradictory textures- Textures that dont coincide with each other, they contrast and can ruin the overall look of a piece
Alter Ego Project
My alter ego is one that represents its emotions through color and lavish stones and gems. My alter ego has the pride of an eagle and the swiftness of a fox. He is calm and collected, and is unmoved from emotional distresses. By using hard edges and smooth planes I was able to render the nose in the form of a beak. Then by cutting out around the eyes it was possible for me to give the overall contour of a human eye without being able to see through the eyes and into my alter ego. I feel that I successfully created an alter persona that depicts what i wanted to say through my piece. It's not just about the mask itself, but the colors and the patterns that are inscribed in the mask. The colors represent the whole emotional spectrum and complications my alter ego had to overcome to be the proud winged creature he is today.
Alter Ego- An alternate persona, not always representational of someones personality
Non Representational- A non realistic rendition of a being, a caricature or exaggeration
Anthropomorphic- Taking on more than one shape or identity
Abstraction- An impractical idea, stressing formal relationships
Geometric Abstraction- Shapes that are contorted and manipulated in a fashion that its no longer the orignal shape
Mask- A face covering hiding someones true identity
Low Relief- A carving that is cut into a plane with a low depth of field
High relief- A sculptured relief in which volumes are strongly projected
In-The-Round- Sculptures that utilize curves and bends as opposed to edges

Plane and Edge Project Cardboard Hand
Pane- A flat surface, a
Edge- the end of a surface, a drop or change in shape
Edge- the end of a surface, a drop or change in shape
By using the cardboard I was able to delineate the shape and form of my hand. The hard edges and angels define the mass and weight of a hand. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of my piece. Even though the back of the hand is a little swollen and could use some thinning to really give the piece a natural feel, I have no complaints.
